Good afternoon all,

We’re told in Ephesians 5 that Jesus loves the church to the glorious point that He dies for the church to rescue her. God values the church highly, more highly than we can imagine. As God cares for the church He puts in place leadership who govern the church in a Christ honouring way.

1 Peter 5:1–3 (ESV) — 1 So I exhort the elders among you, as a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, as well as a partaker in the glory that is going to be revealed: 2 shepherd the flock of God that is among you, exercising oversight, not under compulsion, but willingly, as God would have you; not for shameful gain, but eagerly; 3 not domineering over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock.

The Elders, the church leaders are to shepherd the church to grow them in Christ. They do this by setting an example of living for Jesus so that others can follow that example. As Jesus loves the church, so do the Elders love the church. What does the church do? The church prays for the Elders, is thankful for their leadership, and submits to their leadership.
