Good afternoon all,

The Bible uses a number of word pictures to communicate to us the nature and person of God. Jesus in displaying the nature of God communicates to the disciples in John 10 the powerful image of a shepherd tending his sheep.

John 10:14–16 (ESV) — 14 I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me, 15 just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep. 16 And I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one shepherd.

Jesus is the ultimate “Good Shepherd”. He knows His sheep, the people, and He cares for them to no end. He’s a shepherd who stays with the sheep no matter what, no matter where, and no matter when. Jesus so loves the sheep that He lays down his life to save and rescue them. This shepherd is the perfect example of leadership as He leads His people. Jesus the leader also cares for His church and puts in place under-shepherds to care for and lead His people as well. We thank God for the church and the leadership He puts in place to feed and protect His people.
